As we journey through our lives, we may find ourselves keeping our heads down most of the time. We live to work, and we work to provide for ourselves and our families. We try to be good friends, and we try our best to live our lives. What happens when living begins to feel monotonous? Where do we go when we need to feel ignited? Passion is a mystery to many and can only be expressed through feeling.

Life is boring sometimes; routines can get the best of us. What should we do to take charge, fight back, and come in touch with our feelings? Discipline has its place in the world, but what about happiness, love, and fun? I can recall a time in my 20s when I quit every office job and swore to live my life as the artist that I am. I'll admit it, I had no real plan. I had a little money saved, and I didn't take a moment to consider the bigger picture. All I knew was that life was calling my name; I wanted to paint, I wanted to write, and I wanted to practice yoga. Anything other than that seemed like a life that couldn't possibly be worth living.

So how do we uncover our passions? How do we explore our feelings, honor them, and open ourselves up? Many of us fail to try things simply because we have convinced ourselves that we are not worthy of our deeply desired experiences. We believe that we don't deserve to have the life of our dreams. It doesn't matter if you are a doctor, lawyer, performer, or service worker. After we clock out, we all have the exact same basic needs. Food, shelter, touch, love, and financial security. So, how do we explore life outside of our jobs? Here are 5 Ways to Set Your Heart on Fire:

  1. Breathe - Take some time to settle into your body. Your breath can help you connect with your mind, body, and spirit. By taking time to nurture your breath, you can connect with yourself on a deeper level.

  2. Embrace Yourself - Give yourself a hug. Take some time to physically express love towards yourself. Feel the warmth of your arms, and know that love is the purest expression of gratitude.

  3. Hold Your Right Hand Over Your Heart - Feel the rhythm of your heart beating in your hand. Take a few moments to pay attention to your heartbeat as you observe your breath. Through this exercise, you can identify with feelings you may be holding onto in your heart.

  4. Journal - Take a few minutes to write about the feelings that came up during the 3rd step.

  5. Visualize - Take a minute to visualize yourself genuinely alive. Where are you? What do you see? How does it feel?
